I recently put the call out to find a walnut coloured accordion peg rack and Amanda from Soltek Home kindly let me stain her beautiful pine version. I really love the fact that Amanda herself built this beautiful rack, so I know a lot of love and time went into my gorgeous new wall accessory.
I popped to bunnings to find a walnut stain. I went with the British Paints Oil Based Stain and Varnish in Walnut Satin. Now I don't know much about staining, so I bought a little brush (I chose this one because it was nicely packaged and it said bio degradable, yes I usually pick the pretty packaging version) but I am not entirely sure if that was the right choice, it didn't go on as smoothly as I would have liked, so I would reconsider my staining tool next time. LOVE the colour though.
The stain says it requires 3 coats and 12 hours between each coat. I only did 2 coats and I quite like the colour as is, but I may change my mind later and do that third coat. I don't think the walnut was as complimented on our off-white walls so I decided to hang it on our new navy feature wall. I had originally intended it to go on the Navy, but I was also hoping to paint our entry way, which may or may not happen now, so the rack now lives in the living room. I would rather it be on display in the living room than hidden in my study where the other navy wall is featured. (p.s navy wall colour is Kara Sea by British Paints - 3 Coats)
I really love my new wall rack. It looks great, its functional and it is made with love.
Thank you so much to Soltek Home for allowing me to stain your wonderful design.
